Eye/Ear Signals & Transmission to the Brain:
& Vestibular (VGN) Testing
Next, the patient takes a test which assesses eye and inner ear nerve signal transmission to the brain.Special infrared goggles are connected to a computer that measures, by patient eye and head movements, actual equilibrium and balance nerve impulses sent to the brain. Once the raw VNG data are interpreted, and degree and type of impairment diagnosed, patients are refereed to specialists for treatment.
Patients undergoing balance oriented rehabilitation show marked improvement in balance function and performance when compared with medical therapy or general exercise, greatly reducing the risk of falling & ultimately death.
